CareFirst Commitment

In January 2005, CareFirst launched its CareFirst Commitment initiative. In announcing the program, CareFirst, Inc. Board Chair Michael R. Merson said that CareFirst Commitment is "…our pledge that CareFirst will be a leader in improving health care affordability, access, safety and quality in all of the communities we serve."

CareFirst Commitment is now entering its third year and has three primary components:

Ensuring Affordability - to keep health care costs down for CareFirst members and to increase access to insurance for individuals throughout the organization's Mid-Atlantic service area.
Raising the Bar - to improve care quality and patient safety for the benefit of CareFirst members and non-members alike
Closing the Gaps - to address racial and ethnic health care disparities and better meet the needs of the increasingly diverse communities CareFirst serves.

Major CareFirst Commitment partnerships will, for example, help physicians use technology to improve the quality of care and create programs to reach out to non-English speaking residents of the region to better manage their health care. This commitment will grow and evolve as we continue to seek the best ways to improve the health of the communities we serve.

CareFirst Commitment was awarded the 2006 Marketing Excellence Award by the American Marketing Association for effectively communicating its community and charitable outreach programs.
