Organizations applying for a grant must qualify as tax exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All requests must be submitted in writing and addressed to an individual at CareFirst, Inc.
To apply, your organization must meet the following criteria:
- Not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in Maryland, the District of Columbia, or Northern Virginia.
- Offer programs that address current health needs or access to care for the uninsured.
- Offer programs that serve a diverse population and address specific health disparities.
- Offer programs that promote healthy lifestyles and support behavioral health.
- Offer programs that address chronic conditions and diseases through education and prevention with a focus on diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, asthma, children's health and obesity.
Upon receipt of a grant application, an acknowledgement will be sent. You will be notified in writing, once a decision has been made.
While we recognize that there are many worthwhile charitable organizations throughout our service area, our resources are limited and it is CareFirst's policy to not make contributions that benefit the following:
- an individual
- building funds or capital campaigns
- political causes or campaigns
- the national office of an organization that has local chapters
- fraternities and sororities
- individual churches/synagogues/mosques/temples
- service clubs (e.g. Kiwanis, Lodges, etc.)
- any institution or organization that discriminates by sex, race, creed or ethnic origin
